Support Farmer Groups to Plant Onion & Ginger to Improve the Economy of Communities Around the SOL Project

Up to November 2021, SOL has supported and assisted 17 farmer groups in elephant ginger cultivation and 6 farmer groups in onion cultivation. Guidance and mentoring of 17 farmer groups in the development of ginger cultivation has been carried out since 2019, where as many as 3 farmer groups became pioneers in ginger farming, then in 2020 SOL also assisted 4 farmer groups, and in 2021 again assisted as many as 10 farmer groups; 4 farmer groups in mid-2021 and 6 new farmer groups received 9,012 kilograms of ginger seeds on November 15, 2021.

 

On Thursday, November 04, 2021 - SOL has distributed 6,494 kilograms of Bima Brebes onion seeds which were handed over by representatives of SOL management, Vice President External Relations & Corporate Counsel Mr. M. Rangga Wirapasa and CSR & External Manager, Mrs. Melva Samosir together with the Regional Government North Tapanuli, Economic and Development Assistant, Mr. Marihot Simanjuntak, Head of the North Tapanuli Regency Agriculture Service, Mr. Sey Pasaribu together with the Pahae Jae and Pahae Julu District Governments to 6 farmer groups that will be planted on an area of ​​± 7.4 hectares. Not only seed assistance, previously 126 farmers in the 6 farmer groups had received training as well as onion farming support facilities such as dolomite, compost, mulch and pesticides needed before and during onion planting. Through collaboration and collaboration with the Agriculture Office of North Tapanuli Regency, farmer group assistance is carried out intensively as an effort to ensure that onion cultivation is carried out properly – resulting in maximum production in the future.

 

The development of the onion and elephant ginger plants is a form of SOL's support in realizing the vision and mission of North Tapanuli as a food barn through the development of agricultural-based regional commodities and local resources. This agricultural activity is expected to have a positive impact in improving the economy of the members of the farmer groups involved and can be sustainable.
